AN ASSIGNMENT USING POSTCARDS AS A MEDIUM. THESE CARDS ARE TO BE MAILED TO YOUR GROUP LEADER BY REGULAR U.S. MAIL. THERE IS A POSTOFFICE ON CAMPUS IN THE MU. YOU WILL HAVE ONE WEEK FROM TODAY, November 6, 2006, TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT AND HAVE YOUR POSTCARDS IN THE MAIL. THEY MUST BE POSTMARKED BY THURSDAY; November 6, 2006.

INSTRUCTIONS: You will make two (2) separate postcards. They will be different from each other. They will have a collaged image on one side of the postcard. On the other side of the postcard, where the written message usually goes, you will print your name and your group name. In the place where you are to put the address of the person you are sending them to, put your group leader's name and address. Affix postage. Mail these two postcards by November 3, 2005. Make sure everything is glued down securely, so that they won't get ripped or torn in the mail. Do not make just one postcard with two different images. Make two postcards with two different images. Do not mail them in an envelope.

In this exercise you will read part of a story in the form of a letter you supposedly wrote to a person named Gabrielle. In the letter you are describing your visit to a fantastic land. Your assignment in this part of the story is to design the animals described in the letter.

The story continues:

Dear Gabrielle:

Perdondaris! How that name sticks with me. It is the strangest of cities along the Yann. It is old for the most part. When I was there last week I was intent on seeing its beautiful ivory gate that was seemingly made from one piece of solid ivory. There was a celebration in full swing. The gods of Pegana, Mung, Sish and Kib were being honored. There was much drinking of Bak, that sweet liquor that induces dreams in men. The dances were lovely and mysterious. The streets blazed with light and the flashing of robes. Strange animals, sacred Saranoora, were paraded through the streets. They were unlike any animals I have ever seen. Their bodies were of many different types. Some had numerous legs, some crawled, and some flew in the air above the crowds. What they did have in common was that they all had faces shaped like hands. If you were to extend your fingers and place the tips of your thumbs together as you did so, you would realize the shape of these faces..

Because I perhaps had a little too much Bak myself, I had to resort to collage to show you the bodies of these animals, but I did draw their faces. Look at those eyes! They are large and imploring.

The animals were lead on leashes that seemed to be made of fine crystal and made a noise when the links of the leash rubbed against each other. The leases made a kind of music that spilled down the riverbanks.

The ivory gate was magnificent. It was indeed made from a single piece of ivory and I shuttered to think of the huge beast that carried that immense piece of ivory before its body.

Our captain refused to let us stay too late into the evening because some of the rites of the temples he considered too violet and disgusting. It was well that we didn't stay. Safely back on our boat, we could smell the meat roasting over the great fires and unearthly sounds washed over the night as we tried to sleep. We were anchored well offshore for safety. The captain told us that Bar-Wul-Yan wasn't too far away now, only a few weeks and we would see the great sea that stretches out toward the summer like a lover of the Yann.

The first light of dawn is sliding between the windows of my cabin and a fog and soft rain have begun. I will write again next week. Hope you enjoy these animal pictures I have sent from so far away.

All love surround you.
